What’s On

August is packed with events and entertainment across South Shields, making it a fantastic time for a seaside break.

The South Tyneside Summer Festival continues throughout the month, with free live music, family entertainment and community events taking place across the borough. The Sandhaven Amphitheatre hosts regular children’s shows, performances and family activities during the school holidays.

The popular Seaside Market returns on selected Sundays, bringing local traders, artisan gifts, handmade crafts and street food to the seafront.

On 3rd August, the South Shields 10 Mile returns, with hundreds of runners taking on one of the North East’s most popular road races along our beautiful coastline.

Throughout August, visitors can also enjoy daily fun at Ocean Beach Pleasure Park, explore Arbeia Roman Fort’s summer programme, and attend regular live music performances in South Marine Park.

As always, event details may change, so we recommend checking local listings ahead of your visit.

South Shields Market runs every week with a great mix of local traders, offering fresh produce, gifts, crafts and everyday essentials. Located in the heart of the town centre, it’s a lovely spot to browse during your stay and support our local community.

  • Fridays, 9.30am to 3pm (flea market)
  • Saturdays, 9am to 4pm (traditional market)
