July is one of the most exciting times to visit South Shields, with school holidays beginning, longer days, and a packed programme of family-friendly events, live entertainment and seaside fun.
The South Tyneside Summer Festival continues throughout the month, bringing live music, performances and community events to the seafront. Families can enjoy regular entertainment at the Sandhaven Amphitheatre, while the popular Seaside Market returns on selected Sundays, offering local crafts, gifts, street food and artisan stalls.
July is traditionally South Shields’ warmest month, with average daytime temperatures around 19°C, making it perfect for exploring Sandhaven Beach, Ocean Beach Pleasure Park, Arbeia Roman Fort, South and North Marine Parks, and the stunning coastal walks towards Marsden Bay and Souter Lighthouse.
Whether you’re looking for a traditional seaside holiday, family adventures, great food or simply a place to relax by the sea, July offers something for everyone.
As always, event details may change, so we recommend checking local listings ahead of your visit.

South Shields Market runs every week with a great mix of local traders, offering fresh produce, gifts, crafts and everyday essentials. Located in the heart of the town centre, it’s a lovely spot to browse during your stay and support our local community.
