March, Spring is in the air.

March in South Shields brings a lively mix of music, culture and local events for couples and families to enjoy. Highlights include The Drifters performing at The Customs House (15 March), alongside talks and behind-the-scenes tours at South Shields Museum & Art Gallery and The Word celebrating local history and culture.

Throughout the month, visitors can enjoy regular activities such as South Shields Market every Friday and Saturday, community events like Knit and Natter, and family-friendly library sessions. March also features British Pie Week (2–8 March) and the Best of South Tyneside Awards (26 March) celebrating local businesses and community achievements.

Beyond events, March is a great time to explore year-round attractions including Arbeia Roman Fort, museum exhibitions, and refreshing coastal walks along the seafront and parks as spring begins to arrive. As schedules may change, we recommend checking individual venue websites for the latest event details before planning your visit.

South Shields Market runs every week with a great mix of local traders, offering fresh produce, gifts, crafts and everyday essentials. Located in the heart of the town centre, it’s a lovely spot to browse during your stay and support our local community.
